Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about how we work, what we can do, and what we can't.

Are you the police?

No. JW Investigations is a private investigation firm. We don't have police powers or the ability to make arrests. What we do is investigate, preserve evidence, and — with your consent — refer cases and findings to the appropriate authorities or help you report them yourself.

Can I report anonymously?

Yes. Name and contact fields on the report form are optional. The trade-off is that if you stay anonymous, we have no way to follow up with you or ask clarifying questions.

Can you find out who is behind an anonymous account?

Sometimes we can identify accounts through lawful open-source investigation. We cannot, however, force a platform or phone carrier to reveal someone's identity — that requires legal process (a subpoena or court order), which is carried out through law enforcement or your attorney. We're upfront about this limit.

What happens after I submit a report?

Your report is emailed securely to our team. We review it, and if you left contact details, we follow up to confirm scope and next steps. If you consented to a referral and the case warrants it, we can pass findings to the appropriate agency.

Is my information kept confidential?

Yes. We handle reports securely and share them only with your consent or where we're legally required to. See our handling practices on the Contact page.

What does it cost?

Fees depend on the nature and scope of your case. We'll always explain any costs to you clearly before any work begins, so there are no surprises.

I'm in immediate danger. What should I do?

Contact your local emergency services first. We are not an emergency service and cannot respond in real time to threats to your physical safety.
